VirtuS' new song "Music Fi Figh"
Born in Rome (Italy), Federico Gidaro aka Virtus manifests his interest towards music since early age. During his childhood he studies accordion and later attends for a short time the “School of Music for Films" of the master Elio Polizzi. He graduated in 2013 in Musicology at the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy of the University of Tor Vergata in Rome. He begins composing his first songs exploring many genres from rock to dance music while maintaining a taste towards black music. The approach to the reggae & dancehall takes place in the summer of 2004 and definitively in the winter of 2006 becoming a member of Pakkia Crew (until 2009) with whom he performs in some of the historical locations of the roman reggae scene.
In 2008 participates in the compilation Southyard # 1 as author of the song Mi Gyal, both as a producer of the riddim called Bless The ladyes on which sang names like Treble (founder member of SudSoundSystem) and Mama Marjas (the italian queen of reggae). The riddim has also been printed on vinyl 7". In 2009 he releases his first self-produced album composing most of the instrumentals. The end of 2011 sees the release of Waiting Fi Di Album, a work sung completely in patwa (jamaican creole) collaborating with several Italian and foreign producers.
Some of the tunes on the album as "Bun 'till a morning" and "Ragga music inna mi life" are printed on vinyl (7 ") along with other big names of the international reggae scene like Yami Bolo, Million Stylez and General Levy. In conjunction of the release of the album starts the "Waiting fi tour" that led him to perform for the first time in many foreign countries such as France, Belgium, Spain and Portugal.
In parallel in 2011 he began working with Dj Corrado, among the most important DJs and producers of the "Afro" genre in Italy. The remix of I Tell You That becames immediatly an hit of that musical scene. In 2012 he is inserted by the well-known site Reggae.fr among artists "discoveries and revelations of the year". Since 2012 he joins the Redgoldgreen Movement, a collective made up of musicians, djs and producers, which acts as a promoter of culture, events and musical productions. Soon after borns the Redgoldgreen Label, founded with his colleague WSW Wufer producing and promoting albums for italian artist like Inna Cantina, 'Ntoni Montano, Mattune, Janahdan and Seal'd In Vain or collaborating with international artist like Max Romeo, U-Brown, General Levy and Daddy Freddy.
The confirmed of an international appeal is signed by the collaboration with Flash Hit Records singing on several riddim featuring artists as Kabaka Pyramid, Ward21, Liutenant Stichie, Perfect Giddimani and more. In 2013 begins the cooperation between Redgoldgreen and Piotta (popular italian rapper) leading him to produce in 2015 the music for Rise up, song in combination with the living hiphop legend Afrika Bambaata included in the recent Piotta's album.
In 2016 VirtuS collaborated with the electronic-duo Retrohandz with a featuring in their EP released by DIM MAK, one of the most influential EDM label in the world, as to be played by Diplo, founder and soul of Major Lazer, on BBC Radio. In the summer of 2016 he has performed on the famous Rototom Sunsplash Showcase stage along with other artists of his music label. In the winter of the same year started his first overseas tour in Mexico.
In 2018, VirtuS continues his work as a producer and publishes the single Music Fi Fight in a steppa-version remixed by himself from the original riddim Follow The Oracle
