A new day has dawned for singer and musician Ky-enie. After years of perfecting his craft and recording for various production entities including the famed Big Yard label, he has now assembled a new team to take his career to higher heights.
Ky-enie is currently promoting his new single, New Day (taken from his latest EP Ghetto Dream). He has also signed a management contract with the DNA Management Group which comprises David Azariah, Ken Bernard and Adrian "Donsome" Hanson from Donsome Records.
In a release to the media, Ky-enie spoke about his new direction and the projects he has in the pipeline.
'This musical journey has been quite an experience, you know, loved by many and hated by a few. There have been some highs and lows, happiness and sometimes sadness. But through it all, I still managed to maintain my positive and continuous attitude towards life, my goals, my morals and responsibility as an artiste and a human being', Ky-enie explained.
Originally from St. Ann, Ky-enie grew up in Stewart Town, Boscobel, St. Mary. He later migrated to the United States in the late 1990's. However he has been living between Jamaica and the states.
Known for songs including Don't Wanna be Alone, Wings of an Angel and Rain, Ky-enie pointed out that the single Rain has to date been the highlight of his career.
While his neo-soul style resonates with music lovers, Ky-enie says he brings a breath of fresh air to the music scene.
'Well I bring a breath of fresh air in the sense of just being who I am, cutting my own path, taking my time molding the artiste that I am and creating music from not just a Jamaican perspective but across the board. I am a self taught guitarist and I have always done what comes naturally from my soul, so to music lovers and the industry will always see what I have is special and unique', the singer/songwriter and producer pointed out.
'I'm currently working on two albums of my own that are 80% completed and also a six track EP with a British rapper called Kaos Kstah. I'm also receiving tracks from producers that I'm interested in working with', he noted.
New Day, his latest single was produced by Philip Schmitz of Philtunes Music based in Germany.
Although his musical influences range from the likes of Bob Marley to Capleton, Sizzla, Buju Banton, Ben Howard and Tracy Chapman, Ky-enie doesn't limit himself to any specific genre of music.
'I find it hard to describe my music in the sense of being an eclectic soul that doesn't limit my potential, but I'm a rooted Jamaican, my vocals are Jamaican so I love to experiment with music. If I feel like doing a pop song tomorrow I should be able to do so without being criticized. I do reggae, world music, alternative, folk, hip hop. I am music', Ky-enie reinforced
