DubRaJah releases ENKANG EP as Free Download

DubRaJah is a project of Sergey Gabbasov, a Russian anthropologist and ethnomusicologist, specialized in the peoples of East Africa and Indonesia and student of “Dhow Countries Music Academy” (Zanzibar, Tanzania). He has made many ethnographical expeditions in different parts of Africa, Asia and Europe, produced several films about indigenous peoples and studied their native music. This is Sergey's first release on Dubophonic.

“Enkang” means in the Maasai language “homestead” .Maasai is one of the very few tribes who have retained most of their traditions, lifestyle and lore. “Enkang” is also the name of DubRaJah’s EP, which was recorded in the period from Autumn 2013 till Summer/Autumn 2014 in Arusha (Tanzania), Stone Town (Zanzibar, Tanzania), Wete (Pemba, Tanzania) and Moscow (Russia).

DubRaJah fuses a deep digital dub style with organic sounds, traditional African melodies and chants from the people of Maasai, Datooga, Hadza, Pemba and Zanzibar, incorporating also samples of Mad Professor on “Eyasi Dub” and “Zanzibar Dub”. Each track has is own magic, from the ritual chants in “Laibon” to the mystical beauty of the “Ngezi” forest, cleansing the body, the mind and the soul.

E.N Young out new single “Eye of the Storm”

E.N Young’s new single, “Eye of the Storm”, gives listeners a taste of his upcoming sophomore album, ‘Live Love Stay Up’. The single includes an original, acoustic and dub version and the album will follow suit. Each version stands on its own and highlights a different strength within Young’s wealth of talent as both an artist and producer.

His knowledge of reggae’s Jamaican roots is apparent by the song’s rhythm section and dub inspired delays. Layers of vintage electric piano, traditional bubble organ and percussive synth are accented perfectly by Young’s signature melodica.

His vocals are calm and their relaxing tone reinforces the positive message expressed by the song’s uplifting lyrics.The song has been produced by E.N Young at Imperial Sound Recording Studio, while the new video was shot on tour with Tribal Seeds in Nebraska.

Biography:
Perseverance is an integral ingredient of a successful life. For their new album “Keep Planting Seeds”, Martin Zobel & Soulrise needed a whole lot of it. After the sudden and early death of their bass player Dublex, the band had to gather first and deal with this unspeakable loss. “Keep Planting Seeds” is first and foremost a tribute to Dublex, who had contributed ideas while he was already in hospital.

Life goes on. Together with Fully Fullwood, the bassist of Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and many other big names of the Jamaican reggae scene, Martin Zobel & Soulrise continue to sow analog message music for the soul which they record live. Fullwood, Dublexes’ huge musical influencer, took up Dublexes’ bass to completed the band again. “It was really hard for me to sit there in his place and to realize that Dublex is no longer around.”

Martin Zobel & Soulrise had prepared a basic layout of the album before they flew to California to record “Keep Planting Seeds” in Fully’s Kitchen Studio. “I rarely recorded with such a talented set of musicians,” recalls Fullwood. “Keep Planting Seeds” sounds even more varied than its predecessor “Land of the Free”, which Zobel & Soulrise had already recorded together with Fullwood. From the Nyahbinghi intro of “Wake Up” to the grand finale “Take a Draw”, “Keep Planting Seeds” offers organic roots reggae that narrates moving stories and transports emotions with few instruments. On top Marcus Urani (Groundation) is on board of this project as a guest musician on the hammond organ and features on two tracks of the album.

Act, be patient, and harvest the fruits, that is the message of “Keep Planting Seeds”. Be an example through your actions instead of talking large. “Keep Planting Seeds” embodies this message musically as well. And it shows us that true perseverance can sometimes survive death.

Biography:
Manuel “Scara” Scaramuzzino was born in 1982 in Terni (Italy). His earliest experience of dee jaying was in the second half of the nineties. He started playing Hip Hop, Soul and Funk music. In 2000 he discovered his passion about reggae music, it was love at first sight. In 2001 Scara created the Rude Society Sound System and then the Keep on Moving reggae radio show (broadcast on Radio Galileo) that in a short period of time became one of the most popular reggae radio show in Italy.

In 2009 Scara founded dancehallvibes.it, a popular web zine about reggae and dancehall music. During his dj career Scara recorded several successful mixtapes called “Keep on Moving” and “I'm in the reggae mood” (each one in 4 volumes), “One Thread mixtape” and “That Thing” (italian hip hop mixtape). Manuel “Scara” Scaramuzzino is also a sound engineer, riddim and beat maker and in 2004 he founded his reggae and hip hop label called Scara Sould Dub. He cooperated with several reggae and hip hop artists like Ice One, Gillo, Nukleo, Kabaddu, Ras Tewelde, Horace Andy, Il Generale, Mark-One, Ras Pepy, Kendra (outta Bloomy Roots), Sista Namely, Marina, Virtus, Nerone, Keedo man (outta Pooglia Tribe), Manzish, Giocca, and much more. He produced many albums, EP, singles and riddim compilations.

He has been a sound engineer for many projects collaborating with important recording studios like Synchronia (Rome), Jungle Music (Narni), Groove (Terni). He also worked on soundtracks, jingles and voice-overs for Radio, Tv and Short Films.
As a dj he shared the stage with big reggae artists like Brusco, Villa Ada, Africa Unite, Sud Sound System, Easy Star All Stars, Mad Kid, Moddi, Ice One, Lampa, David Rodigan, Modena City Ramblers, Adriano Bono, Kaos One, Tormento, Apoc, Quartiere Coffe, Lion D, Ras Tewelde and many more. Manuel “Scara” Scaramuzzino never stops studying and working hard, his passion for music grows day by day.

Biography:
Sgt. Remo, born Sergio Ortiz, is a Reggae singer and recording artist born in Mexican-American border city of Juarez, Mexico.

Early Years
He is the youngest child in a family of 3 children. He was raised by his mother in the city of Juarez, Mexico until the family immigrated to El Paso, TX just across the border into the U.S in 1986. From a young age he began singing and entering singing competitions. After immigrating to the U.S. he stayed away from singing and focused on adjusting to the cultural changes of his new community.
He began listening to Reggae Dancehall music in the late 80’s and was heavily influenced by the blend of hip hop and Reggae that was prevalent during this time into the early 90’s. Jamaican artists such as Supercat, Barrington Levy, Buju Banton, Shabba Ranks, as well as Panamanian Reggae artist El General were his biggest influences during these formative years.

Musical Career 

Empire Soundz
While living in Corpus Christi, TX Sgt. Remo began working with Guyanese born Ali and Jamaican born Mistah Blaze. Ali began his musical career as an aspiring selector in his hometown of Berbice, Guyana. Mistah Blaze began singing and chatting from an early age. The three became the Empire Soundz Crew. They collaborated for several years and recorded a large collection of music in a short period of time under the Empire Soundz Crew. They were heavily rotated in mixtape format and received positive feedback. However, none of these early songs were ever officially released.

The New Mexico Experience
In 2004 Sgt. Remo ended up in Albuquerque, NM where he began working with German/New Mexican sound system owner Don Martin, who would later become like a mentor to him. Don Martin and his Brotherhood Sound System ran a steady session at Burt's Tiki Lounge in Albuquerque during ‘05. At Burt’s Tiki Lounge Remo performed his Empire Soundz songs taking turns with fellow artist Mister Kali. In 2007 Sgt. Remo performed with Mr. Kali at the Santa Fe Musik Festival. This was Remo’s first experience on a festival scale.

In late ‘07 and early ‘08 Sgt. Remo & Mister Kali performed regularly in the southwest and built a solid fan base which led to many successful shows culminating with a spring tour with Original General Smiley (from hall of fame duo "Michigan & Smiley"). On this tour they performed in various cities in Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah. In 2010 Sgt. Remo was featured in Mister Kali's debut album "Step Fast" with the song "Loving Loving," a remake of an earlier Sgt. Remo Empire Soundz combination tune. This version of "Loving Loving" was Sgt. Remo's first official release.

Jah Yutes Entertainment
In 2009 he relocated to San Diego, CA. Sgt. Remo continued to perform various shows in the fertile Reggae lands of California working with TRC Sound System (San Diego) and Majestik Sounds (San Luis Obispo). After moving to Houston, TX in 2011 Sgt. Remo formed the label Jah Yutes Entertainment (JYE) and worked with Ceremony Studios and Dread I Arts to release the album "Reggae SoulJahs Worldwide Vol. 1". This compilation album was the first project on the newly formed label and featured the music of General Smiley (Michigan & Smiley), Ken Serious (Flames Crew), Mister Kali, Sgt. Remo, and DJ Yahru El Guru. They promoted the album with the Reggae SoulJahs Worldwide Camouflage tour (a 12 city US tour in the summer of 2011 in the states of TX, NM, CO, NE, IL, WI, OH, MA, NY, VA).

Today & Tomorrow
In 2012 Sgt. Remo released his first solo EP entitled Life is for Living on the JYE label. This EP planted his music firmly on the global Reggae landscape. From this EP came out two very successful official videos titled No Man Stranded and Thunder & Lightning.
In January 2014 JYE released the well received Reggae SoulJahs Worldwide Vol. 2 album featuring music by artists like Gappy Ranks, Sgt. Remo, Nico D, Miriam Simone plus many more. Remo released an official video for the song Rastafari Way from Vol 2. 2014 was a busy year with performances in Japan, Mexico City, and a month long tour titled the 14 Parish Salute Tour with General Smiley, Mister Kali, and the Dub Gideon Band touching down in 18 U.S. cities.
In July Remo pre-released the first single I'm Free from the forthcoming album also releasing an official video for the single. October saw the release of the full length album Give Thanks for Life on JYE. Through the years Remo has released singles for various producers around the world cementing a strong presence in Mexico and Latin America.
